Introduction
This course is designed to provide project managers and inspectors an introduction to pressure testing pipelines and facilities. It will cover what is required by regulations, what will be required of themselves, and what they should expect from the testing contractor. The course covers the planning of a pressure test all the way through to the records needed to be retained. Both 49 CFR 192 and 195 requirements are covered. Practical guidance is provided to the attendees for them to use in determining the acceptability of a pressure test. Attendees will also be exposed to safety considerations for pressure testing and additional precautions should the test medium not be liquid. The class will provide the attendee’s confidence to plan and oversee the performance of pressure testing and ensure they will meet all regulatory requirements.

Instructor Bio
Mr. Barbeauld, Principal Engineer within the Integrity Solutions group within the Pipeline Services Department of DNV USA, Inc.
Prior to joining DNV, Mr. Barbeauld spent over 30 years at Colonial Pipeline Company. Mr. Barbeauld holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering received from the Georgia Institute for Technology in 1985.
Mr. Barbeauld retired from Colonial Pipeline Company as Vice President of Technical Services. During his time at Colonial he held positions in the Engineering Department, led a Projects group responsible for integrity management and pipeline maintenance, served as an Engineering Manager on a pipeline expansion project and a major multiple facility retrofit project, led the Engineering department, served in Operations in both Management and Leadership levels, and led the Technical Services department.
During his career, Mr. Barbeauld had the opportunity to plan, conduct, and evaluate multiple hydrostatic pressure tests of pipelines and facility piping. He also played a key role in evaluating and documenting all existing hydrostatic pressure test records for all Colonial’s pipelines to provide the necessary MAOP validation.
Since joining DNV, Mr. Barbeauld has had the opportunity to participate in Integrity Management Plan updates/modifications for both liquid and gas pipeline operators, assist in a regulatory review of pipeline and facility conversion projects, review and revise Engineering Standards and specifications, and review and determine regulatory compliance for potential pipeline acquisitions. He also serves as an operational and technical resource to DNV GL’s litigation support team.
